In Nairobi, as in many big cities, food security is a major issue. To help improve this situation in Nairobi’s slums, Solidarites International organization started a project that teaches families how to produce their own food at home. They grow vegetables in a gardening sack, using a technique called vertical agriculture, which improves the productivity in a small space. This kind of agriculture needs very little water, another issue at the slums, only a small amount of land and cheap materials.
