Ripley’s homage to the English painter George Stubbs (1724–1806). The artwork features the last remaining Rubbing Down House on Newmarket Heath. Here the Rubbing Down House is shown after being extensively renovated in post-production and on the distant horizon we can see the modern day grandstand. Stubbs was famous for paintings which contained the then many Rubbing Down House’s in Newmarket in the late 18th century. The thoroughbred racehorse itself remains anonymous within the title of the image so as not to detract from the images historical references. Newmarket is the birth place of British horse racing.
