Kumari, or Kumari Devi, is the tradition of worshiping young pre-pubescent girls as manifestation of the divine female energy or devi in Hindu religious traditions. The word Kumari, derived from Sanskrit Kaumarya meaning "virgin", means young unmarried girls in Nepali and some Indian languages and is a name of the goddess Durga as a child. A number of medias addressed the tradition of Kumari in a way of pessimistic and mysterious. These articles and documentaries accelerate me to see their life in a person and photograph them. I have had a strong feeling to visit them after I watched Korean documentary in 2010. Since that I planned more details and finally met them in March 2014. I focused on Kumari in Bungamati, Patan where an origin place of Kumari in Nepal is. Diya Bajracharya 7 years old girl. She was selected as a Kumari in April 2013. When she was 2 years old she started to tell her parents ‘I want to be a Kumari’. And acted like a Kumari. After 5 years later she became a Kumari. Diya Bajracharya She lives at home with her family.
