1960s cultural icon John Sinclair was released from his 10 year prison marijuana sentence for two joints. With Michigan’s felony possession law voided, provisionally it had zero authority prohibiting possession and use. At noon April 1, 1972 Sinclair & friends ascended onto the university diag to smoke freely & lawfully with peace. They have every year since. Months later, the Nixon administration prosecuted him.
