These photographs are part of my series, Conventional Wisdom. I've been documenting conventions--the more unusual and photogenic the better--as expressions of community, culture, and connection. Regardless of what they're about, where they're held, or who attends them, all conventions satisfy a basic human urge: the longing for belonging. An attendee at one gathering expressed this idea best, "This isn't a convention," he said, "it's a family reunion." The submitted images are from conventions for Lincoln presenters, clowns, and furries.
