It was a cold winter’s day when a Snowy Owl flew low over the frozen prairie hunting for field mice and rabbits. I captured this image just at the moment he hovered over his prey. Snowy Owls live north of the Arctic Circle but when food is scarce or the winters are particularly harsh, will irrupt to the lower states. It had been almost seventy years since El Paso County had a Snowy Owl winter here and I spent almost six magical weeks photographing him.
