Over the past ten years the city of Chongqing has become one of the symbols of a new and fast-developing China, drawing millions of immigrants from the surrounding rural areas into newly built housing districts, serving vast industrial areas and feeding a megalopolis thrown into a never-ending building spree. Many of the city’s inhabitants have been, with or without their consent, relocated and pollution is now widespread, turning the rivers brown and the air into dense smog. These images intend to show the locals in their every-day environment, one that has been sacrificed to the economic prosperity of their country.
