|About the Artist:
Ben McMillan moved to Beijing in late 2004, leaving a work as a broadcast journalist at the BBC World Service to pursue a lifelong passion for photography. With a background in international news and a degree in Modern History, it was a natural step for him to focus on the momentous scale of China’s modernization. First in Beijing, and later across the country, Ben worked in his own time, as well as on assignment, to record social and urban change. Everywhere he has tried to capture scenes that document a unique era or moment, inspired by the early photographers that stimulated his passion for history, travel and news. His goal is to be part of that narrative, and storytelling is imbued throughout his work. Ben was shortlisted for the 2009 Sovereign Asia Art Prize and continues to document China on assignment for world famous newspapers and editorial titles. His work has appeared in The New York Times, The Guardian, National Geographic, Vanity Fair, Wallpaper and many more.
