Devotees from Yangon’s Hindu and Tamil communities celebrating Sri Muthumariamman festival in downtown Yangon. The festival is in honour of the goddess Mariamman” or “Mother Mari”, a Hindu tradition still widely followed by Tamil communities al over the world. Devotees at a Mariamman festival wear mostly yellow, the colour of the goddess. Some make vows to Mariamman to walk on fire, carry burning pots on their heads, or perform such acts as swing suspended on hooks through their flesh.
