A friend from Transnistria asked me once: "Why is there an interest to Transnistria? It is an ordinary republic". Unrecognized by anyone but other republics of this kind, it lies in a narrow region between Ukraine and Moldova, near the Dniester river. The republic nowadays is a difficult mix of Soviet way of life and everything contemporary that is unavoidable in Modern world. The region has held 6 referendums in the past 20 years to show its loyalty to Russia, but they have not resulted in any serious attempts from the "Big Brother" to take Transnistria. On the other hand, Moldova sees Transnistria as its territory. People here became prisoners of endless political discussions and feel uncertain about their future. Many of them leave.
