Eleni Mouzakiti (PhD) is an Athens based photographer, educator, researcher and curator of photographic exhibitions and publications. She is the Artistic Director of the Photopolis Festival in Greece and curator at House of Lucie Athens.
Eleni studied German Literature at the University of Athens, FU Berlin and Ruprecht-Karl University of Heidelberg. She holds an MA in Image and Communication from Goldsmiths College, University of London and a PhD in Photography as an Art Practice from Derby University, UK.
Eleni was a fellow of the Greek State Scholarship Foundation, the Alexander S. Onassis Public Benefit Foundation and the DAAD -German Academic Exchange Service.
Her photographic work has been presented in solo and group exhibitions internationally. Her works belong to the collection of the Portland Museum of Art, Oregon, USA, the Thessaloniki Museum of Photography, the State Museum of Contemporary Art (Greece), the ACG Art Collection and other private collections including the Zeppos & Yannopoulos collection.
As a curator she coordinated the production and curated numerous solo and group photography exhibitions (among others at the Athens Photo Festival and the Thessaloniki Photo-biennale,) and curated photography books.
Her recent essay “Studying America photographically: From Walker Evans to Taryn Simon”, (co- authored with Kostas Ioannidis) is published in American Studies after Postmodernism by Palgrave – Macmillan.
Eleni is co-founder of The Provinces, a platform that collects and promotes photographic projects that deal with the Greek periphery. www.the-provinces.com
Committed to long term projects, in her work she focuses on human ecology issues, behaviour in the public realm and leisure time geography.
