2022 Non-Professional Advertising Photographer of the Year

Q: Tell us a bit about yourself and your journey to where you are today.
I’m an engineer and currently live in China. I started to take photographs in 2019.

Q: Why did you choose to submit this specific work to the IPA?
Electric cars have become more and more popular these years, and I think Xpeng P7 is one of the best looking cars among all, so I choose to submit this work.

Q: What does winning this competition mean to you?
I’m very excited that I won this title. It’s an affirmation of my previous effort and encouragement for my future work.

Q: You won Advertising Photographer of the Year with your stunning work, “Xpeng P7 in rain”. What was the process to create the right environment for this photo, which captures the unique shape of the car and emphasizes it with the lighting?
I took this photo at an underground parking lot to avoid light interference.

Q: What other photographers have impacted your own work, methods, or style?
Like many people, I started my journey by learning from Henri Cartier-Bresson, Ansel Adams and other well known photographers.

Q: What do you feel are the key steps to achieving great images?
The first and key step is to define what kind of images are good.

Q: How did you develop your personal style?
I learned a lot from good photographs and took many pictures.

Q: What do you find to be the most difficult aspect of becoming a photographer?
I think everyone can use their cameras or smartphones to take pictures. Everyone can be a photographer as long as you like it and keep taking pictures.

Q: What are the elements that drive your photography? What motivates and focuses you?
Passion.

Q: What would your ideal photography project be if you could do anything or travel anywhere?
Maybe interstellar travel.

Q: What’s next for you? Are you currently working on anything exciting?
Currently I’m working on some very different style photos.
