RULES OF IPA PHOTOGRAPHY COMPETITION

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?
The IPA competition is open to everyone. Professional photographers will
be judged against other profession and nonprofessionals will compete against
other nonprofessionals and students.

ENTRY FORMAT

Prints, transparencies or slides (color or B/W) will be accepted to the photo contest. Print size may not exceed 16 x 20 inches. There is no minimum print size. Do not submit original slides or negatives. Digital Photo submissions must
be at least 2 MB in size. Please save as JPEG (jpg).

ENTRY FORMS
One photo contest entry form must accompany each photo submitted. Photos submitted without the proper forms and payment will be disqualified. The IPA retains the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet our basic requirements from the photo competition.

ENTRY FEES
All entries to IPA photo contest must include the appropriate entry fee, payable to International Photography Awards (IPA). If you choose to pay on line, please make sure to include the "Payment Code" with your photograph. The payment code will be supplied to you at the time of payment.


Professional Photographers

$35 for each photograph entered.
$60 for each series (more than one photograph or books).
Same photograph or series, additional category: $25 per additional category.

Nonprofessional Photographers
$25 per photograph entered.
$50 for each series (more than one photograph or books).
Same photograph or series, additional category: $15 per additional category.

Student Photographers*
$15 per entry.
$30 for each series (more than one photograph, books).
Same photograph or series, additional category: $10 per additional category.
* You must include a copy of current student I.D.


Each photo entered into more than one category in the competition must include the payment of an additional entry fee for each additional category.
Entry fees are non-refundable.

CATEGORY
You may enter your work in any of the categories offered by the IPA
photography competition. Choose the most appropriate category for your print. The IPA judges will not switch your entry into a different category for you. You may enter several photographs. You may also submit a single photograph in two or more separate categories.

AWARDS
The judges will select fourteen winners in the below categories—seven professionals and seven nonprofessionals.

Professional:

Photojournalist of the Year
Advertising Photographer of the Year
Nature Photographer of the Year
Architectural Photographer of the Year
People Photographer of the Year
Specialist of the Year
Fine Art Photographer of the Year

Nonprofessional:

Photojournalist of the Year
Advertising Photographer of the Year
Nature Photographer of the Year
Architectural Photographer of the Year
People Photographer of the Year
Specialist of the Year
Fine Art Photographer of the Year


The fourteen winners in the above categories—seven professionals and seven
nonprofessionals—will receive a certificates of achievement and compete for the coveted title of International Photographer of the Year and the $10,000 prize.

New Discovery Award
Judges will evaluate the work of the seven major winners in the
nonprofessional competition to determine the New Discovery winner.

The Peoples’ Choice Award
This trophy will be presented to the best photographer as selected by on-line
voters.

Honorable Mention
The judges will also award several certificates of honorable mention to
acknowledge excellence as they see fit.

Each winner will receive a press release that may be used to publicize his or
her achievement.

IDENTIFYING MARKS AND SIGNATURES
Place title, caption, signature, stamp and any other identifying mark on the
back of the print only.

PACKING YOUR PRINT FOR SHIPMENT
Please package your prints in a fashion that protects it from bending or
damage.

WHAT JUDGES LOOK FOR
The evaluation of any art form is a subjective process. However, the judges
will base their decisions on accepted qualities of photographic excellence,
including:
creativity, impact, storytelling, technical superiority, lighting, composition, and artistic flair. All decisions of the judges and the IPA are final.


RETURN OF PRINTS
If you would like your print returned, make sure to include an aptly sized
self-addressed mailer and appropriate shipping fees with your submission. A
$10 return handling fee for US applicants, $25 for entrants who live outside
of the US, must also be included. Every effort within reason will be made to
return photographs. IPA will not be responsible for any damaged or lost
submissions. Entries received without a return mailer plus adequate postage
and handling fees will not be returned. Photos submitted without the
appropriate return materials will be stored a maximum of one year. If you
choose, IPA will donate your signed photo to Focus On AIDS FOA.

USE OF PRINTS BY THE IPA
All entrants agree that any photograph that they submit to the photo competition may be used by the IPA for marketing and promotional purposes directly related to the IPA contest. This use may include publication in any IPA publications, printed materials, or electronic media, such as but not limited to the IPA web site, catalog, annual books and gallery shows. Use may also include publication in an IPA media sponsor publication.

Any photograph used by the IPA shall carry a credit line of the photographer. The IPA retains the right of use for a period of eighteen months from date of submission by entrant. Copyright and all other rights remain that of the photographer.
