Since 2004, Julie Castellano has been the Director of Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York and in 2010 helped to inaugurate Galerie Edwynn Houk in Zurich. She is currently the Director of both galleries and is responsible for developing the exhibition program for contemporary artists. In 2011, Ms. Castellano curated the exhibition “Process,” for Edwynn Houk Gallery, New York, which explored the recent shift in the public’s perception of what constitutes a photograph and the techniques utilized by some of today’s leading photographers. The show included works by Sebastiaan Bremer, Christopher Bucklow, Lynn Davis, Susan Derges, Lalla Essaydi, Adam Fuss, Richard Learoyd, Vera Lutter, Sally Mann, Joel Meyerowitz, Abelardo Morrell, Vik Muniz, Robert Polidori, Thomas Ruff, and Victor Schrager.
Ms. Castellano received her Master’s Degree in Art History and Criticism from SUNY Stony Brook. Her Master’s thesis was entitled, “American Art in 1950” and explored the effect of the 2nd World War on the reputation of America and its subsequent hunt for cultural heroes. Ms. Castellano was also the Director of Zabriskie Gallery, New York, from 1998-2004.
