A series featuring the traditional African canoe (makoro, bwaato) on the Lunsemfwa River in Zambia’s remote Luano Valley - from the photographer’s ‘African Spring’ exhibition in his ‘Spirit of the Land’ environment project (www.spirit-of-the-land.com) on the landscapes and peoples of remote Zambia. The project seeks to build awareness of the country’s largely unknown natural environment; how closely and directly its peoples depend on that environment for their day-to-day survival; and how the environment is affected by that dependence.
