The sequence “Passage” is part of a lager work where I have investigated the relationship between Man and Nature in the light of the atavistic human desire to return to the motherland. Nature, stripped of all references to time or place, is perceived as the primordial reality; it intimately communicates to Man, the homesickness of an Edenic condition which constantly forces him to find the answer to a quest for meaning and truth. I have introduced the etiological language using symbols belonging to Jewish and Christian literature. The loss of the Edenic condition make the Man fall into the dark abyss of primordial chaos; however, it is there where he retrieves that broken harmony. The “spelaion”, rather than a physical place, is the state of mind upon the void and relativity of life. Only through rays of Light, leitmotiv of the whole journey, Man is enabled to penetrate the mystery of life in its multiplicity of meanings, finding unity and harmony.
