Oyako means parents and children in Japanese and the title of this series. It started just before my first child was born. No doubt a result of me thinking about becoming a father, but I also saw it as a way to focus on a rapidly changing society. Parents are linked to the family’s past and children, the bridge to the future. I have gone on to photograph hundreds of oyako and hope this series will not be evaluated just in terms of its "Japaneseness." I see them not only as showing time passing in Japan, but also globally.
