On the 24th of November 2009, after a meeting, researchers at the public institute ISPRA in Rome, agree to occupy the headquarters' roof to protest against the dismissals. The Institute for the Protection and Environmental Research (ISPRA) is a government agency with responsibility for research, monitoring and environmental inspection, has already laid off 200 precarious workers and is preparing to lay off another 250 by year end, 40% of staff and almost all of the young workers of the institution. Workers of ISPRA spread their protest also using the Internet, through websites, blogs and a video connection 24 hours a day, using the slogan “Non sparate alla ricerca” (Don't Shoot Research). During the last year, this form of protest has spread widely in Italy, where several public and private companies reduce business and jobs.
