Rice parboiling is an essential part of separating husks from grains. There are thousands of rice mills in Bangladesh that use traditional boilers to make steam for parboiling. The image however shows a new generation of boiler that consumes 15-20% less energy, saves money as well as husk that can be used for other purposes and reduces emissions of CO2 – a major green house gas. Work is underway to bundle a few hundred of these mills into a carbon credit project.
