In the Islamic culture of Pakistan, many women still live under traditional laws and in a culture that has little respect for their human rights and freedom. Kept behind closed doors, the aggressors are rarely punished and often abuse their advantaged position as men in society to subjugate and assault their wives. One of the most common means of violence against women is to burn them by throwing acid. Cheap and easy to find, it is utilised in the Punjab region in the production of cotton but when used otherwise the effects are terrifying.
