During the communist times in Poland public space was conceived as something wich belonged to the everyone, or rather everything belonged to everyone and in theory private space was non existent and its role brought down to a minimum. This lack of ownership resulted in the indifference of citizens attitude towards private space; it belonged to the general community therefore nobody felt responisble for it. Public space was dirty and grey. Nobody payed much attention or time to it. All artistic and liberal acts were held in private homes, as far away from the communistic regimes supervision as possible. Besides forced communist national holidays and events it was forbidden to meet in larger groups. With the change of government and political system so too did the peoples interest in public space change. It became more private.Mans relation to public space became symbiotic. Public space needs mans potential so man can -in public space- realize his own potential.
