Transience has become a means for survival for residence in The Tribe, a low-income neighborhood blocks away from Yale University in New Haven, Connecticut. Jermelle, a 23-year-old father of three, struggles to find domestic stability both psychologically and physically. Like many young fathers in New Haven, he provides for his family by working low wage jobs. In February 2009, he received a eviction notice because his landlord had filed a foreclosure. The sympathy of his baby mother’s wealthy grandparents has brought him and his family from the violence torn streets of New Haven to the city’s prosperous suburbs.
