The subject matter of this project is to examine and depict the varied emotions that are associated with mourning by various family members and their relationship with a beloved, departed family member. My family’s raw emotion, due to the recent death of my uncle, has inspired this narrative series. I explored places that evoked feelings and emotions that I experienced and created sensitive portraits that emphasize the emotions that surrounded me. In my series, I explored different environments, indoors and outdoors, to provide an intimate look into the romance of mourning.

I approached this subject by creating photographs that used natural light and its dramatic qualities. I provide a series of 16 photographs containing single imagery as well as diptychs. Theses images were printed digitally and flush mounted. For this project I shot medium format Kodak 400nc at specific times of the day for a particular quality of light.
