In loving memory of Sir Lawrence Alma-Tadema, the most successful painter of the Victorian era, whom for over sixty years gave his audience precisely what they wanted: distinctive, elaborate paintings of beautiful, elegant people in classical settings. This photo is inspired by one of his largest and most striking paintings. - Amphissa in western Locris commanded the route leading west from Mount Parnassus. It was the location of a festival held in honor of Dionysos.-
