The Chinese government won’t have to wait much longer for a piece of its more controversial traditions to disappear for good. The practise of foot binding was stopped by the Communists when they seized power in 1949 except for some very remote areas, mostly in southern China, where the practise continued for some years after. Even now, some remote villages still have old women living there, all in there 80’s and 90’s, that are a living proof of this practise so often deemed as barbaric to the West.
