A series of diptychs that explore the intersection between public and private domain and how world events reverberate in our lives no matter how far from the “action” we are. I’m interested in the interplay between truth and fiction and how meaning is shaped and altered through juxtaposition and editing. “Sub-version” is about terror, surveillance, mass media, post-millennial anxiety, virtual reality, shadowy threats and ominous rumors.

Story

A series of diptychs entitled “Sub-version” that explore the intersection between public and private domain, and how world events enter our lives however far from the “action” we are. The first pictures for this project were taken on the morning of September 11, 2001, to conjoin the tragic events emanating via my television from Ground Zero, against the placidly sunny day outside my window in upstate New York.

My work generally is explores a range of themes that include personal history, individual and collective memory and identity, the state of the world and the neighborhood where I live. I’m interested in the construction of narrative and how meaning is created and altered through juxtaposition and editing. I take pictures with a film camera then scan the negatives to create hi resolution digital files. I find that using film in combination with digital technology has exciting cinematic potential. Though I don’t in anyway alter the content of my images, the ability to pair and format disparate scenes in a fluid and seamless way allows me to shape narrative and create small cinematic Haikus that speak of my personal concerns and the world we live in.

“Sub-version” is about terror, surveillance, mass media, post-millennial anxiety, virtual reality, shadowy threats and ominous rumors.
