This series is from my trip to the Gulf of Mexico June 11-14, 2010. I am documenting the oil spill disaster following the explosion of bp’s Deepwater Horizon and the people at ground zero, Grand Isle, Louisiana. I travelled with Joey Santley, President of OILiNEX, producers of a zero-waste solution to clean the Gulf and the animals impacted using post-consumer waste. I photographed locals, law enforcement, State Representative Rick Templet, Jay Holcomb, Executive Director of International Bird Rescue Research Center (the local animal clean-up center), and BP employees on the scene. I also spent hours at a local bar on the sands of Grand Isle. I heard stories, thoughts, and feelings of the Grand Isle community about the BP disaster, how it has put them out of work and ruined generations of lives. Our experiences with the local community, among those most directly affected by the disaster, was profoundly moving and heart-wrenching.
