I explore the relationship between modernity and the natural world. This photographic series of industrial landscapes shows man’s alterations to the land as great linear machines hang between the sea and sky, presenting my mixed feelings about my homeland, Japan. On the one hand, these photographs show a country that has turned itself into a machine for commerce and successfully emerged as an economic superpower. On the other, depicted is a sacrifice of the natural beauty due to the toxins of industrialization.
