Holy Angel Orphange is a facilty in Haiti that houses 15 severly handicapped children from ages 3 to 15. The facilty operates with no offcial funding and a staff of only three people.

Story

While in the field working in Haiti one-day, I came across a half collapsed building in Port au Princes neighborhoods lining the outside of the city. I befriended a man working on the property and after a 20-minute exchange; he invited me inside for a cold beverage. When I entered the property and walked around what was still standing from the house, I was shocked to find 15 severely handicapped kids in the yard. What I had come upon was a makeshift orphanage with only a staff of a 3 people there. They had not received any aid that was being distributed and were in need of supplies. After expressing my concern to the orphanage director, I told him that if no one was going to help him then I would. I spent a few days documenting him and the orphanage and then took the images to local and international aid workers. The immediate result of my images was supplies such as food, water and clothing for the orphanage. Soon after a generator and water purifier were installed. This experience reassured my belief in the power of photography and my desire to help those in need.
