These photographs are part of a series where the theme is the disparity between the inorganic and the organic, between the hardness and apparent timelessness of rock and stone, and the organic softness and temporal dynamics in life, plants, water and even breaking ice. Violating common rules of composition, rocks appear in the bottom half and backgrounds are only partially shown and cropped, resulting in an unclear sense of scale and of context. In B&W, the variety of textures, shadows and lit areas enhance the conceptual and visual contrasts that give meaning to this set.
