In Folkets Hus (Swedish labor union buildings, literally: The People’s House) entertainment and labour union activity has since the late 19th century been dependant on each other, entertainment financing the political meetings. The two widely different activities, sharing the same space, have had great impact on the style and design of the buildings and interiors. I have for 4 years photographed 65 Folkets Hus all over Sweden, from Lapland (north of the Polar circle) to the very south. I register everyday details that often are overlooked, and open my senses to a melancholic undertone.
