It is an often heard lament from adults far removed from the days of their youth that their happiest memories of childhood entail frolicking in self-constructed worlds of fantasy and make believe, of whimsy and imagination. Yet with the passage of time, this seemingly innate ability, as easy as breathing to a child, becomes more labored. As the worries of the world cast long shadows in our lives, our need to escape, if only for brief spells of magical revelry, seems more urgent than ever. It is in this vein, that I see this series of photographs, inspired by mythical worlds in films and fairy tales, in legends and folklore. I hope that you will not simply view this image for its art but will experience the sense of fantasy and wonder it attempts to create as it takes you to a land…somewhere between sleep and the clouds.
