This photograph was taken by me with my Nikon D40x out of an apartment building in New York’s Noho district in January 2008. I shoot in automatic mode since the smoke, which was released from the outlet on the top of the lower building next door, was just gushing out. It was challenging to achieve the desired framing of the smoke around the central focus point, the golden statue on the red stone building, since the smoke moved quickly and always blocked the vision. Yet at the same time I needed an ultra-thin layer of smoke around the central focus point in order to create a slight hazy vision to have a ‘dreamy’ effect of the building structure.
