In 2008, I woke up with a swollen neck. I went to the doctor and she found a lump in my neck. The rest of the summer was spent in and out of doctor’s offices having scans and biopsies. In August 2008, I had surgery. My entire thyroid was removed with 3 nodules containing Hurthel cells, one nodule the size of a golf ball. Luckily no cancer was found. In 2011, I am just able to manipulate them to express my feelings from the experience. This is one of my favorite images from the series of self-portraits I took along the way!
