Digital SLR Image captured nine months following hurricane Katrina.
Nine months after Hurricane Katrina devastated New Orleans I worked with a group of photojournalists restoring precious photos damaged in the storm. I was given a tour of the area and the home of a lovely lady who lost everything to the hurricane. It seemed like a long time since the storm but the devastation lingered as if it had just occurred. Katrina did not discriminate with her wrath. She ripped lives apart no matter what color, gender or social background. Not only does this image show the devastation, it shows life. This calendar hung inside Mrs. Orth’s pantry alongside her bill and mail sorter. It was inscribed with the hours she had worked at her job as a librarian. It was from her church. On the top of the calendar was a passage from the Psalm 23…â€The Lord is my shepherd, I shall not want. He guides me to right paths…†Then time stood still.
