IN THE GARDEN looks at the spaces in-between the public and private. Our increasing distance form our food, countered here by growing your own produce. How we deal with the rapid modernisation of our daily lives. The allotments both point back to a bygone time at the same time for their inhabitants point the way forward- in reclaiming their food, time, values and life. The gardens are a multi faceted community partly living together for some brief summer months. The gardens are open during the summer half of year for both the colonists and the public and closed for both during the winter. A retreat, a place to grow ecological vegetables, a place to grow fantastic flowers, a cheap cabin- the gardens are today many things but most of all they exist in a curious hinterland, as a spectacle where the public and private mix and leisure and hard work are seen as co-dependent.
