When I was two years old, I was sent to live with my grandmother. It had a profound effect on me. I came to observe the world in very quiet ways. When I reunited with my parents at six, I felt estranged within my own home. This awkward and alienated feeling always stayed with me wherever I went ever since. The self-portrait series is a confrontation and investigation of self in a way to cope with myself from the past. It allowed me to examine how I relate myself with this world.
