Bangladesh is the world’s third largest Muslim-majority nation, with Muslim making up nearly 90 percent of its 150 million population. During my visit to Bangladesh, I visited the Bishwa Ijtema (the World Muslim Congregation). Millions of Muslims attended this gathering. Many of them left their village and headed to the venue located at Tongi, 40 kilometers north of the city. All the trains that arrived at the station near the venue were packed with local residences. It was a cultural shock to see the trains arriving and leaving, with so many people standing in an orderly manner, packed at the top of the trains.
