I made this series of photographs in a sex doll factory in Ningbo, located in the southeastern part of the Chinese district Zhejiang. I think dolls are always fascinating. They have a human form, sometime they give me goose bumps because they are so real, it just seem like they come to life. There are many kind of dolls, so I made photo’s of paper dolls in China, paper dolls are gifts for deceased, as a symbol for dead, sex doll in this series are on the other hand as a symbol for lust. China with its rapidly growing economy is responsible for 70% sex dolls of the world. look at the sex dolls you are kind of confronted with men own lust. An unromantic, cruel, bizarre but fascinating look behind the screen of the Chinese sex doll factory.
