Lake Baikal, Siberia On April 2, after two full days of travel from Northern Michigan, I found myself in Siberia, one mile “offshore” on Lake Baikal, standing on 3 foot of ice, photographing “Ice boats”, sailing for the 2012 Russian Championship. From all over Russia, adults and children came to race in this Championship. They came by plane and by train, from as far away as, St. Petersburg on the Atlantic, to Vladivostok on the Pacific, connected by the Trans-Siberian Train to Irkutsk and a five hour bus ride north to Lake Baikal.
