Starting 3 years ago in Cape Town, this project developed from a small portrait shoot into a worldwide book project. I am fascinated with faces and people and the more people I photographed, the clearer it became that the subculture became a fashion trend and the people portrayed were very different in their lifestyle, background, age, class or just general ideas of life. It is fascinating for me to bring these very different people together with the common thread of tattoos. The project is more about real people behind the tattoos, than the tattoos themselves. Hence the title ‘True Colors”
