The Gran Premio Capodarco is a one-day, 180 km bike race through the center and surrounding countryside of the town of Capodarco, Italy. Considered the most coveted podium spot in Italy for Under 23 riders hoping to secure contracts with pro teams the following year, it is an arduous and hellish course consisting of multiple long and hilly loops. Mid-August is brutally hot in the Marches Region of Italy, yet the race draws large crowds due to the time of year and the fact that the course allows spectators to watch the peloton pass several times.
