If the Mayans are right the world is going to end on 12.21.12 (although the exact time of day remains a mystery), and life as we know it will change forever as we enter a new beginning, or oblivion depending on your viewpoint. Scientists say life on earth likely began in a murky pool like this one. Me? Well I think...what do either of them really know about any of it? I’m planning on the sun coming up on 12.22.12 and there’ll be an amazing sunrise somewhere on this little blue planet of ours. Yet standing here looking into this pool in a remote part of Zion I can’t help thinking about our ‘actual’ beginnings, and what this so-called new beginning could bring. Being an optimist I choose to believe that things are getting better, better every day. I’m hopeful for a future where friendship, compassion, and love are welcomed and accepted for what they are. And that we’ll rise from the primordial pool of our obsolete attitudes and embrace a better world we all know can exist. A world we all know is better than the one we find ourselves in today. If we do this for ourselves for purely selfish reasons or for our progeny or entirely selfless reasons – we will all be the better for it. I, for one, believe we can and we will.
