KINDER (!) GARTEN . documents the changes in the ‘kindergartenscape’ of the Austrian federal province of Lower Austria between 2008 and 2011. When new regulations lowered the minimum age for entering kindergarten, intensive building activity followed in more than 300 municipalities, an architectural and building effort without parallel anywhere on the globe demonstrating the enormous diversity of this very specific type of building. Driven by educational targets, its sole aim is to provide an environment for children that enables playful learning as well as an intuitive enjoyment of the language of architecture in geometrical and aesthetic terms. Inspiration for life.
