Last year, 26,000 soldiers were sexually assaulted in the US military. The vast majority of victims continue not to denounce the crimes, because of fear of retaliation and mistrust in the military justice system. Indeed, many military sexual trauma survivors were forced out of the military after reporting a rape and most perpetrators have never been brought to justice. Sexual assaults have deep life-long consequences for the victims, who often struggle with post-traumatic stress disorder and depression. Through a series of intimate stories of military rape survivors, An Enemy Within wants to shed light on this shameful epidemic.
