This series of photographs are about Romani Gypsies and their social struggle that they are forced into. I have chosen to show you their economical and social plight through this series of photographs, which were taken throughout an evening as they are collecting wood for their survival. They require wood for day to day living, for firewood for cooking and so that they can heat their huts in temperature which can be as low as -25C. These families have very limited options to earn a living due lack of education and integration within society.

Story

My photography project is about documenting Romani Gypsies’ everyday life, the social struggle that they are up against, and their current social position in today’s Western society.

There are a number of factors such as cultural differences, origin, racism, lack of integration and deeply embedded social conflicts that have caused these issues over hundreds of years.

My motivation for producing this series of images is to bring awareness to all parties about the importance of the benefits of integration, acceptance and understanding of each other cultures.
