The provocative exterior design of the Holocaust Memorial Center exudes an obvious metaphorical symbolism that conveys the building’s interior space with haunting clarity. The exterior visually expresses the story told within its walls as a way to illuminate the past so others “never shall forget”. Symbolic design include dark brick walls as the ghetto and camps, cables strung as barbed wire and electrified fence, bands of striped blue/gray metal reminiscent of prisoner’s clothing, and glass pyramids serving as memorial flames that glow with a subdued golden light serving as flames of “remembrance” as we bear witness to lives lost.
