Sabiduría a flor de piel (Wisdom on the skin) is a visual homage to some of the elders of the aboriginal people Nasa and Misak from Colombia. Women and men who are pillars for their communities and which knowledge and life must be take in account for a better future. It is a project developed with the support of a grant from the Ministry of Culture of Colombia.
SabidurÃa a flor de piel: Wisdom on the skin, is a photographic homage to elders of the aboriginal People of Colombia. Initially I've taken photographs of members of the Nasa and Misak Nations: women and men which lives are living repositories of the knowledge, tradition and courage of their ethnic groups, women and men who are foundational stones of the actual movement for the acknowledgment of aboriginal rights.
It includes persons from these Reservations: Amabaló (Nasa people), Calderas (Nasa people), Wambia (Misak people) and Quizgó (Kishú people), all are part of the aboriginal communities f the Cauca’s department (administrative division in Colombia)
Each photograph has been taken with the permission of the person, these aren't tourist's photographs, are the tip of a process of listen and learn from each one of the persons who have gave me the honor to be part of their lives for a small moment.
It includes an itinerant exposition, a website and a free e-book. From 18.000 photographs taken during 4 months 230 were delivered in hand to the people who gave me the honor to take a snapshot of their lives. And I selected 10 for the itinerant exposition which has been displayed in 3 Reservations of the Nasa and Misak people so far. Two of the biggest aboriginal populations in my country but both languages, history and traditions are in risk of disappear.
