The populist

"The Populist" is a work about the missing profile of modern populist politicians and about marketing in politics in general.
Populists change their opinion and political position with every article in the yellow press and every public-opinion poll.
Populist politicans are not interested in distinct positions, their aim is political power and speeches filled with
phrases are their core competence. The fears and hopes of voters are the fuel for their campaigns, but still their true profile remains
unclear - populists are not interested in better decision making and distinct, rational politics - they are interested in power.
The new rise of right-wing and left-wing populist politicians is a serious danger for the public confidence in political institutions
across the world. They create high hopes but they can rarely keep their word. Decreasing voter tournouts in modern democratic systems
are a clear evidence for the lack of confidence in politicans. But once the turnout of
voters dips below a critical point the legality of the government and democracy in general becomes questionable.

"The Populist" tries to give populist politicans an honest and distinct profile.
