Perfect Vessels

Entry Description

Symmetry, long a cultural signifier of perfection, has its origins in natural forms (including our own bihedral symmetry as living creatures). There are many examples of symmetry being linked to perfection — principles of classic architecture and the findings published in ‘Symmetry and Human Facial Attractiveness’ are two examples that spring immediately to mind. Upon closer examination, of course, we notice within any natural symmetries lie many irregularities. While mirroring half a skull to stylize the form (while reinforcing its original shape), I mean to explore ideas of perfection and aberration — by repeating ‘mistakes’ I’ve come closer to achieving perfection.
